Subsidence claims set to rise as drought continues
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:11:35 am »
It is a fact that during prolonged dry weather there is a rise in the  number of claims for subsidence.
Subsidence is caused by the ground drying out and shrinking away from foundations leading to settlement.
It is worst in areas with clay sub-strata and homes near to large trees.
Most home insurance buildings policies cover subsidence as standard, but many have a £1000 excess for this type of claim.

A surveyor or engineer should check out any cracks bigger than the thickness of a 50p coin.
