Energy price rises due to green stealth taxes
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:40:37 am »
Energy companies profit margins are around 7%.
However, government-mandated "green charges" account for about 20% of every energy bill.
There are £200billion of environmental energy initiatives householders have still to pay for.
Energy companies are forbidden to detail these green charges (ie the extra tax) on your bill.
The government don't want you to know energy price inflation is down to their policies!

Energy price reductions of 5% are not enough
« Reply #1 on: January 24, 2012, 11:08:15 am »
Recent announcements by the big six energy suppliers that energy prices are being cut by around 5% are over-stated.
First of all the cuts are not real cuts, just a reduction on last year's increases.
For example last August Scottish Gas increased prices by 19% so reducing them by 5% now means they are still more expensive than six months ago.

None of the big suppliers have reduced their prices for BOTH gas and electricity.

The net result is energy prices are still 13% higher than they were in the summer.
Uswitch say that the average annual bill is still £125-£190 more than it was 12 months ago.

Finally, don't forget to read your meters on the day of the reduction and let your supplier know.
Otherwise they will estimate the reading and you could be paying the old higher price on gas or electricity you have yet to consume!
