Carpets...............
« on: July 25, 2016, 10:21:26 am »
I'm after a bit of advice please.

I bought my home new and after snagging works have been completed, the carpet to one of our bedrooms has been up and down so many times that it no longer fits the room.

There is a gap at the door strip where the fibres of the carpet have disintegrated.
The developer has agreed that the carpet needs to be replaced which is good news and they have sent around a carpet contractor that they use to measure up.

Now, the problem we now face is that the manufacturer of the carpet no longer manufacture the same colour as our carpet. So our Hallway, Stairs, Landing, Study and all four bedrooms currently have the same colour carpet which looks great and is uniform throughout the house - but now we will have one bedroom with a different colour carpet.

Obviously, I am not happy with this as all my carpets currently match. Do I have any rights here?

They should replace the carpet on a like for like basis.

You should be able to get a reasonable colour match with your other carpets, even if this means they have to pay for a more expensive carpet.

Check the carpet name and specification online, you will probably find lost of places that still have some in stock. Tell the builder/carpet fitter to buy it there!

You have no chance in hell of getting all the carpets changed for free just so they now match!
If the builder supplied the carpets, they will probably need replacing in a couple of years anyway, so bare that in mind when choosing the new bedroom carpet quality!

Who was the housebuilder?

They state that they are unable to obtain the same carpet from any stockist.
Bare in mind, it has taken nearly four years to complete my snagging, so I am not surprised that they are not able to obtain the same colour from the manufacturer.
Surprisingly, the carpets are actually good quality! The have little wear due to the lack of "traffic" in our house. It is a four bed house with just the two of us in. The developer is Linden Homes, previously Midas Homes in our area.

Just a though have you tried contacting some of the stockists?  Just in case they are lying to you!
Sure it wouldn't be first time they have tried to con people just so they can you their own carpet ready to hand.

I would phone around to confirm!

I'm afraid that I have tried that approach. Nowhere has it in stock as the carpet was discontinued some 18 months ago. If Linden had resolved my snagging more efficiently then then would still be able to obtain the carpet!

Don't know of there is a difference between stockists and local carpet dealers? but maybe a shout to check local carpet dealers to see if they hold any? because it may well of been discontinued, but there could still be some rolls of it out there or not as the case might be.

As I said in my reply, type the name and make of carpet into Google and someone will have some in stock somewhere!
He could try the Big Red Carpet Company  who I can recommend.

Alternatively, perhaps this is more about getting the whole house re carpeted free.

Hell No!!!! It is bad enough trying to empty a single bedroom of all furniture for the carpet to be replaced! The carpet has been changed now, so I will just live with it.

Thanks for the advise on searching for companies / carpet stockists, but I had already explored all avenues.
