Advise needed - Blocked drains
« on: January 09, 2018, 02:23:16 pm »
Hi there,

We are on an estate with approx 100 houses which is due for completion in February 2018.

Quite a few houses are consistently getting problems with blocked drains but we are repeatedly being told by the house builder that it is due to wet wipes being put down the toilets and if they have to be called out again, it will be at our cost. Obviously this is a false statement and they can't evidence it.

We are concerned that once they leave site in February, we will have no recourse and we will be left with blocked drains. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

So mow it is wet wipes being to blame for blocked drains.
It used to be nappies!

One thing for sure is the drainage has either debris in it causing a partial blockage or the drainage is not of the correct fall or has  snag that enables a blockage to build up.

The only sure fire way to prove the drainage is up to required specification is to have it surveyed with a camera.
I suggest you get together with your neighbours and either:
1) All write to the builder and insist he cameras the drainage and gives you all a copy of the report or
2) You all club together, get your own camera survey and present the evidence of it to the housebuilder and warranty provider and demand anything untoward is sorted out.

You are right, it cannot be allowed to go unchecked and unresolved!
It also depends on who your housebuilder is as to whether they will fix any issues or just fob you off.
Who is your housebuilder?
