Wood lice problem
« on: July 29, 2011, 11:24:30 am »
I have a compost bin and put grass cuttings, leaves, clippings etc in it.

Last year I noticed that wood lice were in the bin and were doing quite a good job of converting the garden waste to compost.
However, this year I have noticed that in the areas where I have put the compost I have a wood lice problem in the garden beds which is killing nearby plants.

I have put down Ant powder and that seems to keep them under control.

What I am concerned about is my remaining compost.
Does it all have wood lice eggs in it and should I just take it all down the tip, which would be quite an exercise!

If I were you I would dump all the compost and start again Albert.
It looks like it is infested.

The only thing you can do Albert is to empty your compost bin and take the contents to the tip I am affraid.
I have a similar problem with ants in my compost bin this year.

Ants are really bad this year.  Not sure why exactly.
Tesco has/had a special offer on ant powder £1 a go or three for £2.
Ant powder seems to do the trick nice and quick and works on wood lice too.
