House builder's 'yellow' direction signage is unnecessary
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:52:07 am »
Local Authorities should go after house builders who erect unauthorised so-called yellow "direction signs" to their developments on street furniture and road signage.
These are made to look like the 'official' temporary AA event direction signs, so much so they are now widely used and always ignored by councils everywhere.

Worst still, the builders hardly ever remove them, even years later when their developments are long since completed.
One has been up in my area for 14 years.

Councils should write to all house builders given planning permission in the last 6 years instructing them to remove their signs within 28 days.
If they fail to comply then councils should remove them, charging house builders £1000 for each sign they take down.

These signs are not necessary. With satellite navigation there is no need for these signs.
They are a free advert for house builders and a distraction to drivers that may even contribute to, or cause an accident.
It is time something was done to end this blight on our lives.
It is up to councils everywhere to prohibit the erecting any direction signage for a development, as a condition of planning approval.
If these signs are then subsequently put up then planning permission should be permanently withdrawn for all buildings yet to be started.

They annoy me too Albert.
House builders have to pay to put them up.
But what incentive have house builders got to pay more take them down, when they can either leave them up, or the council remove them for free (eventually).
Just imagine if every shop put up signs to their stores on lamp posts and road signs!
