Hello,

I have exchanged the contracts in June 2017 and we are getting possession in first week of December. I am buying a new build flat using Help to Buy and the Solicitor told me that stamp duty for new homes should be paid before keys handed over to us.

Just want to know if this is true as some of our friends says that I have 30 days to pay stamp duty after I moved in to my home/flat.

If there is any law/reference please do let me know

Regards,
KBS

Stamp duty must be paid at the time of legal completion.
You pay it to your solicitor and they send it to the treasury.

Be aware you are legally completing in the "silly season" when housebuilders rush to finish as many homes as they can shoe-horn in for their end-of-year figures"

Please have your new home professionally snagged and inspected before you legally complete.
