NHBC data to the end of May show that there have been 27,150 homes started in the UK in the period from March to May 2011.
As was the case in the April report, this represents a 16% decrease when compared to the same period in 2010.

The NHBC say that "activity in May picked up from the levels seen in April with 9,150 starts. Rolling 12 months statistics show that were 103,050 starts in the UK (compared to 102,900 for the preceding 12 month period)."

The housebuilders are not going to build new homes if there are no buyers around.
