Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn Backs New Homes Ombudsman
« on: April 01, 2016, 05:36:48 am »
Jeremy Corbyn was given a warm welcome by 600 people packed into The  Ridgeway Centre, Old Wolverton Milton Keynes on 31 March 2016.

When Mr Corbyn was asked by a new homebuyer what was needed to improve the quality of new homes he replied:

Quote
"I can read from your question, what a miserable time you have had from the company that built the home.

There has to be obviously good quality of building and that requires good quality of Building Control but it also requires good standards in the first place, rooms sizes, insulation and so on which has got better, but could still go a lot further.

But it also requires for there to be an easy system of complaint and force the developer to rectify the problems in a timely and immediate manner; they often don’t do that. They think once they’ve sold the place that’s the end of story for them. They’re a big powerful company, you are an individual who has probably mortgaged yourself up to the hilt to buy in the first place and can’t afford to go to court and take them to court. Well that is unfair and there needs to be an ombudsman that can help out with that, there needs to be a clear system with dealing with it and a clear message to those companies that they have to abide by those rules and abide by those regulations."

Now my campaign for a New Homes Ombudsman has the backing of the Labour leader, let's hope it will not be too long before new homebuyers have the means of remedy they so badly need.

The New Homes Ombudsman would be able to produce statistics on just how well (or badly) individual housebuilders and warranty providers deal with complaints.

The data collected by the Ombudsman would be able to give consumers a clear idea of which housebuilders really do treat complaints seriously and those that would rather obstruct the process in the hope that their homebuyers give up and drop their complaint.
