We have roughly 80 acres to clear, mostly consisting of light brush and small trees ranging from about 1 to 6 inches in diameter. The landowner specifically wants the trees and, more importantly, as much of the root system as possible removed rather than simply cutting everything off at ground level.
We have access to excavators and dozers, but I’m interested in hearing what equipment or attachments others have found most efficient for dealing with the smaller trees and roots. Would a tracked skid steer with a root grapple or brush rake be useful for this kind of work, or would you approach it differently?
Any suggestions or experiences with similar clearing projects would be appreciated.
