It is amazing how much money you can save even by just changing a few things.
I certainly would only buy 'A' rated appliances now.
The new LED TV's are also very energy efficient.

That is some saving if you did everything!

At least most new homes are better insulated.

There are a lot of ways for us to cut costs.  I have children, and I hate how they leave lights and tv's on all the time.  I recently got the electric bill, and I about fell over.  I had a quick conversation with them about doing this!

To the topic though, there are some really great things you can do to make your home more energy efficient.  I recently had a neighbor who is saving 25 a month because of the window replacement he had done.  Insulation also can play a major role in saving money on heating and cooling.  Also, there are some home services companies that can evaluate your house for efficiency and make recommendations on how to improve.

I think consciousness is the best saver though.  If you are looking for ways to save then you will continuously find ways to improve efficiency and cut cost.

We have energy Performance Certificates in the UK that are required every time a house is sold.
It is an assessment of energy efficiency and gives suggested improvements.
By the way you can get TV's now that have motion sensors that switch off the TV after a period of time if no motion (people) are detected.

What a brilliant thread! I particularly like the one about it saving the average homeowner £100 a year by simply reducing their time in the shower by only a minute!

The little things really do add up to the big thing when it comes to saving money. It will also help if you use your microwave a little more than conventional cooking applicances.

Harder in practice!

That's true. If you want to see dedication then take a look at the US show 'Extreme Couponing' on youtube. It's phenomenal how much work goes into basically getting their weekly shop for free! Not sure I could do it.
