Has anyone completed a loft conversion on a new build home ?
« on: September 25, 2017, 06:40:06 pm »
Hi,

I have bought a Taylor Wimpey 2 bed semi detached house, the house model is a Belford.
We are really happy with the build quality of our home and have had barely any issues, as moving costs are large round our area we are thinking of a loft conversion.

Has anyone with a similar 2 bed home converted their loft and what did it entail?

The loft height is greater than 2.8m, no loft conversions have been completed on the estate but the larger homes which have the same size roofs have dormers so the space should not be an issue.

Thanks

Assuming this is a genuine post and you are not being paid to write this glowing review of Taylor Wimpey, all I can say is why didn't you buy a bigger home at the outset?

It is highly unlikely that you will increase the value of the home by adding a room in the roof to a tiny two bed.  Add in you will lose floor area for the stair flight and that the truss joists won't have been designed for the loading of a room.

I have deleted the link to Taylor Wimpey's webpage too!

Genuine post,

Not everyone can afford a mortgage for a £375,000 3 bedroom home in my area, we was lucky to pick up a two bedroom home in the area as they do not build many of these.
The price was still rather high at £305,000 so there is a large price difference between the two.

Just a general query as explained the loft space about is over 3m to the peak so there is plenty of room up their for a third bedroom. Also to fit a staircase above the existing staircase we would only be losing 1 sqm of the second floor bedroom so minimal lost space.

Only asking to see if anyone has had any dealings with such loft conversions ?
