Lenders are competing to provide the lowest ever five-year fixed-rate mortgage.
Last week Nationwide Building Society announced their four-year fixed-rate at 2.89%.
Those applying will need at least 40% deposit, a Nationwide FlexAccount and £999 spare cash for the hefty arrangement fee.
RBS/NatWest have a five-year fixed rate loan at 2.95% and Santander's is 2.99%.
Both require the borrower to put down at least 40% deposit.
The RBS loan has a staggering £2,495 fee, making the slightly lower rate all but uneconomical for those borrowing less than £130,000.
