Sample delay letter to builder
« on: November 13, 2017, 08:25:01 pm »
Hi all,

I reserved with Abbey New Homes in April this year and completion date on the reservation form was stated as end of September 2017. This was changed to October, then November, then December.  I visited site this past weekend and was told it's now January 2018 for completion.

This is unacceptable and I need a strong worded complaint letter to send to the CEO as the sales people have proved incompetence so far by not updating me on progress. I have to visit the site every now and again to see progress. No cogent reason has been given so far for the delays. Only fake news about new completion date every time I visit.

Moderator, I did not use builder advised solicitor. Thank you.

Regards

Bryan

There is no templet letter that would cover every eventuality.

Clearly this housebuilder is so disorganised they are not even able to plan a relative accurate completion date.  There may well be a specific reason for this, it could be problems with utilities, but also it could be problems with the ground, the house itself or a planning issue.

Reserving a plot in April with a completion date in September is six months for the build, more than ample in most cases. What you have just been told equates to 10 months to build a house, unheard of in the industry!

There is a reason and you have a right to know.  Get your solicitor to write the letter, it could be the best £100 you ever spend!
