Tiling Question - Help and Advice Appreciated
« on: June 18, 2017, 08:28:12 am »
Hi All,

At the end of October last year I completed on a Crest Nicholson property. I would appreciate some advice on the following potential issues in relation to tiling and if these meet the NHBC standard of finish.

Image 1
The tile to the right of the mixer has been cut short to house the bath mixer control as a result a jagged is visible. The cut of the tiles above the mixer also do no appear uniformed.

Image 2
The grouting between tiles is very uneven between certain tiles.

Image 3
The cover that sits over the waste pipe from the basin does cover the hole made in the tile to house it.

The tile joint on the shelf above the recessed toilet does not meet with the upstand.

Image 5
This tile looks to have not been cut correctly as there is a significant difference in the thickness of the grout from the bottom of the tile to that of the top.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Because you moved into your home less than 2 years ago I would be asking the builder to take a look and ask them if they thought it was satisfactory. I hope they would agree it isn't and put it right.

Thank you for your reply. I have raised this with the builder who have said these are "minor tiling imperfections and as the property is manmade they are to be expected"

Crest's reaction is typical of this industry.
Everything is man made, except the things made by machines, but the machines are man made!

Regarding your photos, I do think you are being a little "picky."
The tile hole at the shower control that is still visible on image 3 needs re cutting.

But the rest whilst not perfect, in my opinion any remedial work, cutting out tiles and re doing could even end up looking much worse.

If this is all you have found in a home rushed by Crest for their year end figures (31 October), you've done pretty well.
