Thoughts on this brickwork please
« on: May 02, 2022, 09:47:54 pm »
Managed to get some pictures of a new build David Wilson Homs (part of Barratt plc) property that I have reserved.

Slightly concerned with some banding on the side elevation, but certainly not as bad as some examples I’ve seen. The rest of the property to my eye appears to use a good mix of bricks to avoid this banding effect.

A few sections are jumping out at me with a slightly different colour mortar.

Would appreciate general thoughts on the overall standard of brickwork/pointing, am I being overly critical?
Should I be raising anything at this stage?

The excuse will be "it will weather down"  It won't.

Yes you should bring it up now as once you have moved in they will have zero incentive to do anything about it.
Also, you will lay down a marker to the site manager that you will not be accepting his usual rubbish standard and if he is not a complete idiot he should try to ensure your new home is better than others.

The solution is to have the areas tinted so the banding is less obvious.  Not even the NHBC would sanction have the brickwork taken down and re built so this is the only outcome.
