I was just wondering if someone could help me out please.
We've just recently moved into a Taylor Wimpey semi-detached 3-bedroom and so far we've not been too impressed.
The main issue we've been having is the lack of sound insulation from the attached property.
It started off that we could hear his TV from his living room through to our living room so loud we could tell what advert he was watching. We had a polite word with him and because of his hearing, he had it at volume 67 so this would explain why. However, we're now hearing noises that we wouldn't expect to hear even with his hearing into consideration.
One morning we could here his drawers being shut. Another day it was his dining chair or table being moved. We could even hear his grandchildren laughing one day too. The final thing that really caused concern was hearing what we thought was a light switch or plug socket. I went round and explained what we'd heard and he agreed to do some testing with us. He flicked the power switches in the living room off and on around 10 times and it was like it was being done in the hallway.
Surely this isn't right?
We hear a lot of external noise too. At night, we can hear when people talk when they walk past the house, and we can hear a lot of the building work still being done. We've spoken to Taylor Wimpey about this and they weren't too interested. We were asked if we'd lived in a newer build semi-detached (we haven't) and they also knew about his hearing difficulties.
We spoke to other people on the development and they haven't had any sound insulation problems whatsoever. We even spoke to people in a mid terrace house closer to the building work and they said they can't hear any of it. We can hear every car drive by our house from our living room and can hear the kids play outside. Maybe our expectations are too much, but hearing the plug socket does seem a stretch too far.
Any thoughts on this would be a great help.
Thanks.
