Poor Sound Insulation

(1/1)

mollymoo:
I moved into a Persimmon (Hatfield design) house earlier this year.
We soon noticed we could hear the boiler and washing machine through the wall separating the lounge and utility rooom and later noticed noise from the WC on the other side of the same wall.

The boiler is actually fixed to the other side of the wall, which is a simple stud partition.  I've checked with Premier, the warranty company, and have just been advised that the section of the wall separting the WC should contain some sound insulation.

I can see that at least the part directly behind the WC doesn't. I've not yet been back to Persimmon but they have previously stated they have not had this problem with this house type before which I find odd as the boiler and washer in particular are clearly audible.

I wondered if anyone else on the forum had had similar issues? Thanks in advance.

First of all (and I hope you never need to confirm it) Premier Guarantee Warranty isn't very good for buyers.

It is true that in NHBC standards which should also be equal to in Premier/LABC warranty standards, any wall and soil pipe boxing must be insulated for sound for obvious reasons.

There is no requirement for other stud walls inside a home (except obviously, party walls in terraced houses and flats) to be insulated for sound as far as I know.

No doubt Persimmon will try and avoid doing anything about this anyway, which is why they are just a 3 star housebuilder as far as their customers are concerned.
