The NHBC have re launched their Trade Talks programme, a series of one hour briefings aimed at site workers - trades and operatives.
The one-hour sessions will highlight the most common reportable items and defects that NHBC inspectors and claims investigators encounter
on residential developments with practical guidance being given on how to prevent these problems occurring.
It is hoped the training sessions will have the potential to significantly reduce the number of defects in newly built homes, saving the cost
and inconvenience of remedial works.
Each Trade Talk will cost house builders £171 plus vat each, for up to 12 people and cover the following trade disciplines:
Brickwork and blockwork
Carpentry and Joinery - floors and roofs
Foundations, ground floors and drainage
Pitched roof coverings - for roofing contractors
Drylining and plastering - for plasterers and dryliners
Timber frame - for timber frame erectors
It will be interesting to see if the NHBC will publish data on the take up by house builders who will be in effect, training a
sub contractor's own labour, who may then move on to work on a competitor's site.
In the past, even safety training for non-direct employees was seldom provided above the minimum required by current legislation.

It will be interesting to see if any of the national house builders actually take this up.
Given the fact that the market is clearly in recession and those that are still building are mainly building social housing on their sites.

No builder is going to pay for a course for another company's employees.
They may however, deduct the training costs from the sub contractor's next valuation!

I agree ...with the construction industry running on sub contractors and with only the forklift driver and the site management on the payroll...
I cant see this getting off the ground

I think it is just a PR stunt by the NHBC so they can say they are doing something constructive to improve quality and standards.
Let's see if they ever publish and figures on how many courses have been given to each house builder's sub contractors.
I bet the trades would want Daywork just to attend the training!

Judging by the ever falling quality and increasing dissatisfaction from UK new home buyers, either:
1) The training wasn't any good.
2) Hardly any trades went on these courses over recent years.
3) They are too thick or money orientated to implement what they had be told.
4) All of the above!
