Title: Garden Turf

I'm just after some advice regarding the turf in my garden (laid by the developer).

The grass grows fine, but it hasn't been laid level at all, it's very lumpy to walk over and ends up with long patches. Plus when the grass is cut is appears quite patchy and discoloured in places.

Any idea what would cause this discolouration and has anyone had any luck getting the developer back to level it out? The landscaper has been back once for a "visual inspection" and said it was all fine but in his report admitted he refused to walk on it (I was at work at the time) because it had recently been raining.  He also said he thought it may of been walked on too soon after being laid, which was 3-4 months prior to us completing.

I suspected it may be because of a lack of topsoil but I've done a few trial holes, plus the shed base which I dug out, and found there to be a decent amount of good topsoil - probably the 150mm required.

Reading this, I suspected that under the turf was debris & rubble hence the bits dying and lumps.
But as you found none when digging out a shed base and the depth is 150mm the only thing it can be is someone walked on it too soon after laying, either the builder or you to water it or after it had rained.

Not sure the best way forward. Probably a mix of lifting the low parts with a fork and rolling the high parts. The housebuilder should attend to it but it isn't a warranty issue if the topsoil is 150mm thick.
