Title: Fridge freezer doesn’t fit
Post by: benjaminlovatt@gmail.com on November 04, 2020, 12:34:15 pm
I’ve recently moved in to a new build which is lovely except for one problem.

We have a large American style fridge freezer and before the kitchen was put in, we discussed making space for it. We gave the developers the 3D measurements of the fridge freezer and then paid a fee for them to build the kitchen slightly different to the standard plan. We arrived last week to find that they have made a gap in the work surface to fit the fridge freezer width wise but because there’s a door and a skirting board in the way, it won’t fit.

The sales advisor has gone away to discuss this to get a price and see if they can help. The impression I get is that they will try and make us pay for more work which I don’t agree with as it’s clearly their mistake. Has anyone had similar experience or advice?

You have already paid extra for a bespoke kitchen to accommodate your large fridge freezer.

Nothing in building is impossible and can be changed with additional works often though at some expense.

From the outside, it would appear to me, to have been a simple case of the door and skirting being overlooked by both you, the housebuilder and the trades on site. Th skirting can easily be taken out; moving the door not so inexpensive.

A fair solution would be for the housebuilder to make the changes required and for you to pay half the reasonable costs for the work.  If you cannot get an agreement, tell the housebuilder  you want a deadlock letter from them as you wish to make a claim using the  Consumer Code for Home Builders.  (http://www.brand-newhomes.co.uk/consumer-code.htm)
