Title: Cracked bricks in new build
Post by: MarkWales on February 17, 2022, 09:41:02 pm
I really need your advice on the issue I've discovered in my house.
I moved in a few months ago. Today I noticed that 5 bricks have cracks - it is quite a big proportion of all the bricks as the house has rendering on the outside (are they mainly decoration or a part of house structure/foundation - I'd imagine different type of blocks are hidden under rendering?). I do not know if they appeared recently or have always been there.

They are located separately in "random" places however on the same side of the house.

How bad is it? What are my rights and what should I push my builder to do?

Thank you very much for your help!

Nothing to worry about. The bricks just cracked in the kiln when made.
The blockwork and render would have cracked if it was movement or worse, subsidence.

Great, thank you! Is there anything which needs to be done to prevent further water damage / brick degradation?
