Title: Bad bathroom finish. Home builder refuses to re-tile, what to do?
Post by: GrantsV on September 17, 2021, 09:56:04 pm
Moved into new home to find our master en-suite bathroom has a shockingly bad finish.

90% of the the tile edges are chipped (as per photos) and some tiles don't flow smoothly together (raised edges).
For 9 months we have demanded a full re-tile but the builder refuses.

The new home builder has offered a re-grout, which will not fix the damaged tiles.

Where can my family go from here?

Unfortunately there isn’t too much you can do about cosmetic snags such as that of your bathroom - the NHBC certainly won’t pay for it. A possibility could be getting the developer to regrout and then if your still not happy with the finish getting a 'magic man' in to repair the chips on the tiles. This probably won't be cheap but should cost less than redoing the whole thing.

Our developer used Magic Man to repair a few scratches on our tiles and they can’t be seen now so I would highly recommend. Luckily for us they were happy to do this unlike in your case.

Hopefully you have some luck with your developer.

I think the tiles are beyond patching up.
Just shows a complete lack of care.
pity the original poster didn't say who the housebuilder is so others can avoid.

Magic Man, Plastic Surgeon and the like are fine for scratches and chips of expensive items, but for tiles it would not be cost effective. Easier, quicker and cheaper to hack off and start again.
