UKIP second in Eastleigh by-election
(1/1)
The Prophet:
The Liberal Democrats held on to the Eastleigh seat despite a 14% fall in the share of the votes since the 2010 election.
UKIP came second; just 1772 votes from victory.
UKIP's Nigel Farage said on BBC Breakfast that the surge in support for his party was not a "freak result, if the Conservatives hadn't split our vote we would have won."
He said that people were fed up of the lies of the three main parties and "Conman Cameron" even those who had not voted for 20 years, had come out to vote for UKIP
He added:
"Something is changing. People are sick and tired of having three social democrat parties that are frankly indistinguishable from each other."
When asked how UKIP would reduce the budget deficit he said:
"we could start with the £50million a day we hand over to the EU and the £25million a day we give in overseas aid."
Mike Thornton (Liberal Democrat) 13,342 (32.06%, -14.48%)
Diane James (UKIP) 11,571 (27.80%, +24.20%)
Maria Hutchings (Conservative) 10,559 (25.37%, -13.96%)
John O'Farrell (Labour) 4,088 (9.82%, +0.22%)
