Title: Persimmon homes really are despicable
Post by: dancingqueen on August 28, 2016, 02:32:58 pm
Persimmon homes are holding the village of Backwell to ransom
They are refusing to sell the church St Andrews a piece of land next to the church that they have been promising to sell to the church for 20 years, unless the village agree to have 340 houses built next to the church.
It means that the churchyard now has to close, and no one from the village can be buried in their home.
They will have to travel to South Bristol Cemetary, so all the old people in the village who bury their husbands, wives children, will no longer be able to visit their loved ones, all because of Persimmon Homes' greed.
This is just another example of the money, money, money attitude of Persimmon Homes.

More I learn bout them the more I dislike them!

Can't your MP get involved in this matter?

This is absolutely appalling. I can't believe they could be so heartless however the more I read about Persimmon on this website I shouldn't be surprised. This needs as much publicity as possible. Is there a media link that we can access so we can spread this around on Twitter and Facebook?

I doubt Persimmon have been promising to sell the Church the land for 20 years!
The way the government is telling councils to approve planning for new homes at the moment, they would probably get planning permission whatever the locals think or object.

In addition, would you want to buy a new home with the possibility of a cemetery the other side of the fence?

But, knowing Persimmon, I expect they will sell the land to the church as soon as the last home has been sold.

The Church have been promised by firstly Beazer homes and then by Persimmon who bought Beazer that they would either ''gift'' or sell for a small amount of land sufficient  to sustain the churchyard for another 30 years.

They held up the sale in 2000 when they were refused planning on appeal at the High Court.
They came back to the village last year with another application to build on the land, this has been refused by North Somerset Council, and is once again going to appeal.

The village now has a neighbourhood plan which is supposed to take precedence over all planning applications, and so once again it is going to appeal at the high court and also in front of the secretary of state for communities. We have been advised the neighbourhood plan will be upheld by the communities secretary and be refused again and by way of punishment to the village, they are refusing the sale or gift of the land to the church.

That is disgraceful.
I expect they will now try and sell the land on to someone else.
