Title: NHBC Buildmark Warranty Statistics for 2010

The NHBC (http://www.brand-newhomes.co.uk/brand_new_home_warranty.htm) provides a Warranty for over 80% of the new homes built each year, with 1.7million current policies.
A total of  102,000 new homes sold on the open market in the UK were warranted by the NHBC. (85,000 in  2009)
The NHBC had a revenue surplus of £57million in 2010 ( £25million in 2009)
The NHBC has reserves totalling over £310.5million.

The NHBC carried out over 476,693 inspections on new homes in 2009/10. 
As an Approved Inspector, The NHBC Building Control Services carried out building control on more than 57,956 new homes.
 
Claims under the Buildmark Warranty:
The NHBC say 67% of claims were found in the home owner's favour in 2010.
Last year  the NHBC processed a total of 5195 claims against house builders.
The NHBC paid out a total of £72 million in claims to remediate defects found by new home owners in 2010.
This was  £59 million iin 2009 and just £37 million in 2005.

The number and cost of claims for defects is going up whilst the number of new homes being built is going down.
Hardly a sign of the quality of new homes improving.

All the time the house builders keep chasing figures, both profit and number of new homes built the NHBC will have
to keep paying out for defects.  It will only get worse as the Building Regulations get even more onerous.
