Those home owners who have installed solar panels to take advantage of the generous feed-in-tariffs should notify their insurer.
There have been instances of increased fire hazards and leakage from panels or leaking roofs.
Insurers may require an additional premium to cover the new added value of the panels and insure against the cost of replacement.
They could also require home owners to install additional fire protection and/or commit to regular inspections and maintenance.
