If you want to grow plants up a fence then a good tip to screw treated timber roof battens across the panels equally spaced.
These are reasonably priced around 30p/metre and will be stronger than using wire, last longer and have the added benefit of actually strengthening your fence panels.
It strangely also makes your garden appear much larger.
