Older homes are new home market's main competitor

What is the new home market's main competitor
Other house builders are not the main competitors.
It is believed within the industry, that the main competition comes from the homes the house builder built ten years ago.

They were built to a higher specification and were more spacious and comfortable than the smaller high density new homes being built today.
They will have bigger established mature gardens, including a front garden (a rarity today!), better parking and may have been upgraded by their owners adding a conservatory or improving the kitchen.

New homes account for around 10% of the housing market.

I couldnt agree more.
I went around a new development last week and none of the homes had front gardens, just a small strip of land large enough for the gas meter box.
Nowhere to park either.  Why do people still buy these homes?
