Hello All,
I just bought a plot of land in Pennsylvania in the US, and was wanting to contract out the project myself, and doing as much work as I can. I need to get the blueprints of a new home. Anyone have an any suggestions of where to start without spending a fortune for a home design?
Thanks a lot advance

hi john .... i love PA ...WE SPENT A WEEK AROUND AMISH COUNTRY ...INTERCOURSE
my mrs bought just about every quilt there was and had them shipped back
and of course we all came home with the obligatory i love intercourse "t" shirts
there are literally hundreds of design plan books available in the shops or or the internet now ....that will show you various designs
homes in your area are typically stick built with masonary chimneys ...as is the norm over your way ...so designs are simple
from the classic ranch house, the colonial , the cape, etc
theres also many new companies specialising in sectional homes ...they will design as part of the package
and with new build even worse in the USA , than in the UK ...now is the time to get anything done
from getting the site cleared , to percolation tests,( unless you are on town water ) to getting your leeching feild installed ....all the contractors are willing to work for nothing to keep paying the bills
and with winter around the corner deals can always be done ....

You could visit your local house builders sales area or a real estate agent and get a copy of their brochures.
This will give you an idea of possible room sizes and layouts.
You could also Google "House Plans" and as brickkicker says, most of the timber frame "kit Houses" the manufacturer will do the plans to an extent for you.
You will probably need a local architect/technician to ensure your plans meet the building regulations/code for your area too.
Daily Mail book of house plans (http://<http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0091894476/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000S2F7NK&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1WTP9P0732073Q5K0AYS>)
Good luck with your project.
