The word democracy was derived in Greece when in small Greek states all the citizens voted on real issues that affected them such as whether to build a cathedral, how much to spend, what design and where to build it.
They cast ballots and accepted responsibility for the outcome.
Of course we could never have that!
Instead we vote for candidates once every five years or so.
Candidates who are controlled by their party leaders, with the parties themselves financed by powerful industries and lobbyists with agendas.
But why can't we vote on all the main issues? The technology is available.
It is possible that every intelligent citizen could be able to vote via the internet once a week on current issues. Imagine that!
But.......
Would you vote to subsidise the latest low rate mortgage deal so that those that save or pay their mortgages subsidise those that are reckless buying homes they could not afford? Of course not.
Would you vote to spend £1.60 for every £1.00 in tax revenue puuting the country deepr into debt? Of course not.
Would you vote to give Brazil, (a country considering giving a loan to the ECB) £13 million in aid this year? Of course not.
Would you vote for QE increasing the money supply resulting in higher inflation and falling annuity rates to record low levels for today's newly retired? NO.
Would you have voted to bail-out companies such as RBS and Lloyds bank? Of course not.
Would you have voted to buy Northern Rock for that matter? Of cource not.
Would you have voted to sell off most of Britain's gold reserves when prices were rock bottom? Of course not!
Would you have voted for a £5 billion a year tax grab on British citizen's private pensions? I doubt it.
Would you have voted to send troops to Afghanistan and Iraq? No again?
So as you would vote No you are not allowed a vote at all.
