Title: Wooden Flooring
Post by: vineetpanicker on May 28, 2014, 01:10:22 pm
Can anyone please recommend a website or retail outlet to buy wooden flooring from. In terms of finding the right tradesman would you also recommend ratedpeople etc. type of websites to look for one or rather trust a locally recommended vendor.

Also, what I have heard is laminate flooring can get very noisy even with the acoustic underlay. Please comment.

Warm Regards,
VP

Regarding finding reputable tradesman, you could do a lot worse than use a carpenter working on the site.
At least you could ask his fellow workers and the site manager and with a bit of luck he will be around for a while too and wont want you harassing him if he did a bad job.

Regarding finding a reliable tradesman  (http://"http://www.brand-newhomes.co.uk/choosing-a-reliable-reputable-tradesman.htm), you need to follow the advice in the link.  You can also use the likes of RatedPeople, MyHammer and Checkatrade as another reference, but be aware that all of these charge the tradesmen to be listed and their "checking" will not be as good as yours!

Regarding laminate flooring it is noisy, it curls and creaks and you cannot get it wet.
Unless the skirtings are taken off and put back on top of the new laminate the cover trims that you would need to use look horrible too.  Whatever you decide, don't do it through Taylor Wimpey!
