The world's cheapest new home at just £440 plus land cost.
« on: August 01, 2011, 12:05:59 pm »
Tata, the company that bought Jaguar and Land Rover has designed the world's cheapest new home.

The house is 215sqft (25sqm) and is set to cost just £440 ($715 - €500) and is constructed using coconut or jute fibre walls and even has with a choice of windows and doors.
The prefab kit is expected to hit the market in the next six months. Tata is currently drawing up plans for a more spacious model with solar panels and a veranda.

The homes which will take only a week to construct are not expected to last beyond 20 years. It is understood that the timber frames,  used by many of the major house builders, only have a
forecasted life expectancy of around 25 years.

Tata believes the market for these small homes is ideal for housing the homeless or as temporary buildings for various agencies, rather than being suitable for city construction.

That will help the first time buyers!
But they would still need a mortgage to buy the land!
