Recent research has revealed that the average UK home has over £2,800 worth of clutter stored in the loft.
Apparently, 10% of home owners never clear out their lofts, with old TV's  computer equipment and old hi-fi stereos being the most valuable.

Of those surveyed 20% said they had as many as five old TV's in their loft.
Their estimate of the value of these goods stored in their roof space was £599.
However the Co-operative insurance claim it can be around £2,800.

The most common items stored in attics include, photographs, old clothes and family heirlooms with 30% of women storing their wedding dress in the roof space.

As well as ensuring the value of these items is included in the household contents insurance, home owners should also be aware that with increasing insulation levels to ventilated roof spaces, a loft space is not a very good storage area for treasured items.
