Title: RIBA launch HomeWise campaign for larger new homes

A confirmation that little thought is being given to the size and quality of UK new homes is highlighted by the re launch of the RIBA's new study:-
The Case for Space: the Size of England's New Homes.

There are no minimum size requirements for new homes, in fact UK new homes are the smallest in Western Europe, with the average one bedroom flat being just 49 square metres, roughly the size of a tube carriage!
This is despite reports showing that space and light are two of the most important factors people are looking for in a new home!
These are basic needs, which are proven to impact on health, happiness and wellbeing.

In a matter of weeks the UK government will be making a Review of Housing Standards in England, which could include minimum standards for space, energy, security and natural light.
It could compel house builders to build larger new homes.

The RIBA has launched HomeWise, a campaign to encourage ordinary people to take part in the consultation process by getting in contact with their MP to demand that proper minimum standards for space and light to be part of the new regulations. are set.
