A well as the government's apparent preference for building on green field sites, having relaxed planning rules to enable the national house builders to pave over even more of the British countryside, planning minister Nick Boles recently said that another 2%-3% of Britain's land should be built on to relieve the housing shortage.
This area would be the equivalent size of two Greater Londons!

But should not the empty 710,000 homes be used first.
What about the 1.5million new homes that could be built on the nation's brownfield land?
In addition, let us not forget about he 400,000 plots (with planning permission!) that the house builders have sitting in their land banks whilst they wait for better times.
