Hello: Any advice on this, please? I've no particular need for one on the detached new-builds I'm considering, and when integral I consider them a waste of space that could be better used for living (in these mean-sized houses).
What surprises me is that so many houses are built with them. Surely people would prefer the living space? Aesthetically speaking a garage can look somewhat ugly - dominating the front elevation.

If teh garage is actually large enough to drive a car into and get out of it then perhaps it saves you getting wet.
Also handy if you use the garage for storage.
That said on some estates after a few years these garages are often "converted" to provide an extra bedroom, study or a gym.
In many cases against the terms of the Title Deeds and without building Regulations and Building Control inspections.
Integral garages are popular with housebuilders because they take up less land and so gardens of this house type are always smaller than those with separate garages next to the house.
