Title: Fewer New Homes being built in 2011
Post by: Philofacts on August 18, 2011, 11:52:00 am
The latest NHBC data to the end of July suggest number of new home starts will be 6% lower than in 2010.
Their figures show that there were 28,550 homes started in the UK in the three months from May to July 2011.
Although a slight improvement on the last report, it still represents an 11% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The NHBC report states that "activity in July fell back slightly from the levels seen in June with 8,800 starts and rolling 12 months statistics
show that there were 101,800 starts in the UK (compared to 108,350 for the preceding 12 month period)".

All we are building at the moment is the Social Housing quotas.
Not many private new homes being built on our sites.

More houses were being built in 1925 than they are at present
- even though the current UK population is now 25% higher!

Yes the trend is still down ...statistics show this

out on the ground ..I am seeing more sites come out of mothball ...as builders "stock" starts to run down

effectively they are almost being forced to build now ....otherwise there is going to be nothing on the balance sheet next year if they continue to hold out

so where the savings and the profit coming from next year ...if it cant come from prices ?

answers on a postcard please ???

The only homs they seem to be building are social housing.
Margins are tighter but they at least have a buyer before they build.

It could be even harder to sell the private homes once the HA residents have all moved in too.

According to reports, 90% of the UK population live on 9% of the land.
The number of new homes being built has fallen to a 85-year low in 2009, with just 142,000 new homes being built.
The number of households in England is expected to grow by 232,000 a year - giving a shortfall of 90,000 homes on 2009 figures.

"According to reports, 90% of the UK population live on 9% of the land."

That's amazing!

If you look at the way all the house builders are cramming in new homes these days and the small size of new homes,
it goes a long way to explain the statistic.

Indeed. It will be interesting to see the average size of a UK home in about 100 years time!

New homes are now about as small as they can get.
The only thing builders can do is put them even closer together to maximise the return on the land.
