Title: Charles Church New Homes Uses Four Times More Energy Than Claimed
Post by: New Home Expert on October 06, 2016, 06:32:59 am
In July, I wrote an article on my blog showing that housebuilders are cheating mandatory energy performance testing  (http://www.new-home-blog.co.uk/house-builders-are-cheating-new-home-air-leakage-testing/) and that not every new home is required under the current building regulations to even be tested.

On BBC Oxford news last Friday, this was highlighted further, when a Charles Church new home buyer and councillor Dick Wolff, paid to have his new home independently tested by an engineer. He discovered that the tests he had show his home uses FOUR TIMES the energy than that stated by the builder's Energy Performance Certificate. In the interview it is claimed that housebuilders energy performance certificates are not worth the paper they are written on.
As Mr Wolff said, "they can cheat the homebuyer, but they cant cheat the planet"

And its not just at Charles Church (Persimmon Homes) either!

Hi my name is Caroline.
We are also unhappy with the energy bills in our new Charles Church home and it is because the integral garage door does not fit and lets in the wind, and also the rain.  The downstairs of our townhouse is always very cold.  I can't believe the test results they used, unless the garage was excluded.

Charles Church have refused to fix the garage door or deal with the water ingress, and have stated that an integral garage does not have to be dry!

It doesn't surprise me.
The fact is that your new Charles Church home is not performing as well as it should be.
It is well-known that Persimmon have a very poor record for customer service, evidenced by their customers rating them just three stars for the third year running!

I would advice you call in a specialist to carry out a thermal imaging survey and air integrity test for your home. You will then have proof you need to get the warranty provider to force Charles Church to sort the defects out.  Give  Paul Buckingham  (https://www.sustainablelifestyles.co.uk/about) a call.

An Integral door (presumably within the garage itself) should not be letting the rain in.
