Do we need to spend our way out of the slump?

Consumer spending represents 60% of the economy.

It makes sense that to expand the economy, we need people to spend, and they need stable employment and reduced taxes to enable them to do so.

Putting up VAT and cutting jobs is not the answer - IMO
