Britain is about the find out if we have huge reserves of shale gas when the British Geological Survey announces the result of its survey into shale gas next year.
It could confirm that Britain is sitting on £1.5trillion of gas reserves, bigger than the whole of the North Sea reserves.
But for those that live in the areas to be explored, it could mean house prices falling as much as 25% if you live within two miles of a shale gas well.
The extraction method "fracking" has been known to cause earthquakes and contamination of ground water.
