Title: New Energy efficiency Green Deal to start next year
Post by: Banjo on June 06, 2011, 12:07:09 pm
Under "Green Deal", homeowners will be able to borrow up to £10,000 to pay for energy efficiency improvements to their homes such as a new boiler or better insulation.

The loan plus interest would be paid through energy bills over a period up to 25 years. The debt would be with the home not the owner so a new owner would take over the remaining repayments if the home were subsequently sold.

Having an unpaid  loan may make the home more difficult to sell!

How does this work when you switch energy suppliers?

More debt for home owners!
Not a good idea imo

The subsidised "borrowing costs" could be added to everyone's energy bills.
Either by higher prices or increasing the Vat rate for fuel.

The new energy-efficient gas boilers are not all good news.
