Living wage? No, make taxes lower for the working poor.
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:47:38 am »
Ed Miliband's latest idea (aka limelight grabber) is the so-called "living wage".
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation say this should be around £7.45 an hour.
But for someone working full time, earning the current £6.19 minimum wage, the living wage would mean just £340 a year extra take home pay;
Just 93p a day after tax.

The tax-free allowance should be raised to £12,500 to take all low paid workers out of poverty.
This could be paid for with higher rates for those being paid over £150,000 a year.
