Title: Global medical aid fund at risk due to US cutbacks
Post by: The Prophet on December 14, 2011, 12:13:00 pm
Ten years ago a global fund was launched to find Aids, TB and malaria cures.
It currently keeps 3.2 million people with Aids alive using anti-viral treatments.
It has also paid for 8.2 million courses of TB treatment and 190 million insecticide-treated malaria nets.

However, the latest round of funding has been suspended primarily because of a shortfall in America's $4bn pledge for the period 2011-2013 - around $1.3bn a year.
This is $600,000 less than the US military spends each day!  European aid cutbacks will also hurt but at least the UK is honouring its pledge to scale up assistance.
