I am wondering if anyone can offer me some advice.
I reserved my new home from Bovis in June.
I have just been told by Bovis that my move in date has been delayed.
Whilst I have never been given a specific date, everything was aiming towards December.
I received a letter on 20th November informing me that completion is expected in December.
Can anyone tell me what my options are now?
Could I be due compensation?
Is there anything I can do to bring this forward.
Bovis are claiming the reason for the delay is "due to delays with ground works and services."

If you received a letter on 20 November stating completion would be "December" this is because they are trying to push your completion in so it can be included in their year-end figures. Last year, Bovis buyers were offered bribes of £3,000 (http://www.new-home-blog.co.uk/bovis-bribe-buyers-to-move-into-unfinished-new-homes/) to legally complete on homes that were not complete and in some cases so far away that they couldn’t move in.
Bovis are one of Britain's worst housebuilders, rated just 2 stars by their own customers.
After all the adverse publicity at the start and throughout 2017, I cannot understand why anyone would choose to buy a Bovis new home this year.
As for compensation for a delayed completion date, you could be just starting out on your potential Bovis nightmare!
You could try to use the Consumer Code for Home Builders (http://www.brand-newhomes.co.uk/consumer-code-dispute-resolution.htm)
but that will only be successful if Bovis haven’t kept you informed and you can prove the original completion date. As per requirement 3.2 Bovis should have followed these guidelines:
• Before completing the foundations and ground floor – give the calendar quarter when the Home is likely to be ready.
• When the roof is completed and the building weatherproof – give the month when the Home is likely to be ready.
• When the Home is decorated and main services are connected – say what week the Home is likely to be ready.
My advice is don’t move in until the New Year and insist that Bovis allow you to have your new home professionally snagged and inspected before you legally complete.
If you do move in for their year-end (and I wouldn’t advise it!), make sure you get a large (£3,000 minimum) cheque for doing so! Believe me, they will pay!
